Why you should get regular health exams

Are you one of those persons who haven’t attended a health examination for ages, or do you go see a doctor once a year, or maybe even more often? If you’re already doing this regularly; great! If not; time to start!

So why is this so important? Well, at a health examination your doctor will be able to evaluate your physical health, and he or she will be able to give you advice on how to stay healthy and prevent diseases. It will also make it possible for you to discover health issues at an early stage, which makes it easier to treat those issues, or at least preventing them from getting worse.

What you might find out during a health examination

So what exactly can you expect to find out during your yearly examination? Well, this depends a lot on your age, gender and medical status, but the doctor can take blood tests to find out more about your cholesterol level and blood sugar, which makes it possible to discover high blood sugar before it increases and leads to diabetes. If the levels are high, your doctor will be able to give you advice on how to eat and live in order to lower the levels accurately.

You’ll also be able to find out if your liver is well functioning, and you can find out if you need to take some kind of vitamin pills, such as vitamin C or vitamin B12.

Another thing to check during a health exam is early signs of cervical cancer for women. This can easily be done with a pap test, and you’ll get the result within a few weeks. Every third year is a good frequency for these tests, if there’s no sign of cancer, that is.

Get regular skin checks

As skin cancer gets more and more common it can be good to make regular skin checks. Let the doctor check your birth marks and other marks on your skin, in order to find signs of melanoma at an early stage. It’s possible to treat skin cancer, and the chance for a successful treatment increases if you discover it early.
