Delicious 5:2 recipes to try

Since I wrote about the 5:2 intermittent fast diet the other day I thought it would be useful for you to have a few recipes to start with, in case you want to start off right away with one of the fast days. As I mentioned in my previous post you don’t have to fast completely, you can eat up to 500 calories if you’re a woman, and up to 600 calories if you’re a man. That leaves you with several alternatives whether you like to stick to just one meal, or prefer several small meals.

Take a look at these recipes and choose the ones you prefer 🙂

Breakfast smoothie with frozen berries (153 calories)

  • 100 ml orange juice (unsweetened)
  • ½ banana
  • 50g low-fat, natural yogurt
  • 100g frozen berries, such as strawberries and raspberries

Mix in a blender and drink as a delicious breakfast.

 

Stuffed avocado for lunch (285 calories)

  • 1 avocado
  • 5 cherry tomatoes or plum tomatoes
  • 100g cucumber
  • 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper

Mix the tomatoes, cucumber and balsamic vinegar and pour into the avocado, after you’ve divided the avocado in halves and removed the stone.

 

Chicken breast without skin (162 calories) with mango salad for dinner

  • 1 chicken breast
  • Mango
  • Cucumber
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Apple
  • Lettuce

As you can see it doesn’t have to be boring or tough to follow the 5:2 diet. You can eat delicious things on your fast day too, you just have to count the calories, and you need to avoid foods rich in calories. Avoid pasta, potatoes and rice, and go for meat, fish and vegetables. That way you’ll get the protein you need while keeping the calorie count to a minimum.
